Walking routes in South Limburg

The most beautiful walks around Mechelen, Epen and Vijlen, all from the door of Hoeve Hurpesch.
The Ice-cream farm loop route on the map

Ice-cream farm loop

4.9 km
Mechelen, Epen (ice-cream farm Wingbergerhoeve), Mechelen. Our favourite walk with the children! First a little climb, then past Landhuis Emmaus and the edge of the Elzetterbos, with a wonderful view. Then a stop at the ice-cream farm for a homemade ice-cream sundae with fresh fruit (closed in winter) and back along the Geul, barefoot if you like.
The Schweiberg loop route on the map

Schweiberg loop

8.7 km
Up a little hill, down a little hill, past cute half-timbered houses and through the woods, followed by a lovely meadow with a view of the church of Vijlen. When the ‘five’ is on the clock, secretly walk a bit further through Mechelen for a speciality beer or a glass of wine on the terrace of ’t Pintje or ‘In de Kroeën’.
The Hazel dormouse route on the map

Hazel dormouse route

9.5 km
Mechelen, Camerig, Volmolen, Epen, Mechelen. On this route you have the best chance of meeting the hazel dormouse, especially along the edge of the woods. Great with children, because there is plenty of climbing and enough places to rest, for example at Buitenlust or the Smidse. Also have a look at the Volmolen! Too long? Shorten it at Epen.
The Boscafé loop route on the map

Boscafé loop

11.5 km
From Mechelen to Vijlen (Boscafé ’t Hijgend Hert) and back. You walk along the Geul, through the woods and over the hills with wonderful views. Halfway you enjoy a hot chocolate by the open fire, or a cold beer in summer.
The Leadership walk route on the map

Leadership walk

14.9 km
A challenging circular walk, laid out for leadership training but also great for families and groups who like a long walk. Two steep climbs at the start, then a big descent and two smaller hills. Wonderful view over the valley and the half-timbered houses.
